Save Catalina High School

TUSD is proposing to move all Catalina High School students to Rincon High School and make Catalina High School into the campus for University High School. We can’t let this happen. Catalina High School has a strong history in Tucson and the neighborhood, teachers, and community want to keep Catalina High a neighborhood school.

               Save Catalina!

               Go Trojans!

Catalina High School was left out of the four-month long planning process proposed by University High that moves our school to Rincon (effectively removing it from existence) so UHS can take over our building.  Sixty years of educating Tucson students down the drain.  The TUSD School Board has given CHS six weeks to come up with alternate plans, but appears to back what UHS proposed.  This is all very one-sided.

The Site Council at Catalina is meeting to devise alternate plans to the proposed UHS plan.  The Foundation will be represented by at least one or two board members on this council.  We will do our best to protect our students from the disruption caused already and down the line by this proposal.  Our principal asked that the Monday after Fall Break (yes, I know, who ever heard of Fall Break!) be devoted to helping the students understand the process and that the school and the Foundation have their backs and will work to keep Catalina intact.

There have been several letters to editor in the Arizona Daily Star, along with a story with some bias and inaccuracies.  If you feel compelled to write, please do so, and emphasize how one-sided this has been.

When we have a plan, we will print it here.  For now, go to the TUSD website to read the UHS plan and resolution–take your blood pressure meds first.  The Whistle Blower letter will also give you some insights.  If you have thoughts, suggestions, or offers to help please get in touch with the Foundation via email, catalina.hs.foundation@gmail.com.  We will answer as we can; this is an all-encompassing event with which we are dealing and consumes considerable amounts of time and often immediate reaction.

You can also join the conversation on our Facebook page.

Thank you for your support and good wishes.  We will go forward with courage and resolve to save our school.

Save Catalina!
